Our Philosophy

Rare Forms is a mission driven company. We do not take on work that does not align with out mission, and we judge our success by our impact on our community before our profits.

Triple Bottom Line

Rare Forms is a triple bottom line business, meaning we equally consider people, planet, and prosperity when planning and evaluating our impact and success. We are committed to ensuring that every person we employ, whether directly or indirectly, is paid a fair living wage and enjoys a healthy working environment, both physically and emotionally. Our commitment to the planet runs through every decision we make as net zero home builders, as reducing the effects of climate change is the core mission of our work.We give back directly by supporting a variety of non-profit organizations and donating a portion of our sales through 1% For The Planet.

Health, Comfort, and Durability

Practicing sustainable home design and building energy efficient homes go hand in hand with building incredibly comfortable, healthy homes, and durable homes. We are committed to making thoughtful choices in materials that ensure that a home’s indoor air quality is pristine, greatly reducing allergens (from dust to VOCs) and making the home comfortable for all occupants. Our building methodologies ensure that we are creating a resilient design and that the lifespan of our homes will be measured in centuries, not years. This also makes them more resilient to climate change, ensuring comfort and low operating costs in a quickly changing environment.

Waste Reduction

Construction sites are notoriously wasteful places. We strive to reduce waste at every turn by storing scrap lumber for use as blocking later in the project, purchasing material in bulk to reduce packaging waste, and re-using as much material as possible when we demolish existing structures.

Rare Forms is located and works on the traditional lands of the Pocumtuc and Nipmuc Peoples, past and present.  We acknowledge with honor and gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations.
